When we began a casual search of property in Swainsboro, GA, we saw this beautiful investment property — a triplex on a corner lot in town — and briefly wondered if the rent would be enough to maintain such an old home, as well as pay for itself. Before we could inquire, the house was removed from the realtor’s website. This was around March 2006.

We soon began a more serious search for a place to live. For three months we looked at mobile homes with acreage, brick ranchers, new homes, old homes… almost anything available with more than 3 bedrooms and we viewed it. Then right before a trip down to view another property, there it was. The triplex was back on the market and we realized that it may just work for our situation.

It took two trips through the house before we were completely sold. We made our offer the end of June and finally closed July 28th. The big triplex, built in 1928, is ours!

Now the work to convert it to a single-family home begins…
